It's an online system where you can purchase most if not all games for the 360 and install them into your harddrive. It's pretty nifty, but I don't buy games from it because of my horrible download rate and I prefer to keep the discs for safe keeping.

Hold up, do you have to pay for access to the Marketplace? Because I know you have to pay for XBOX live, and paying a monthly fee is the only thing keeping me from playing WoW.

In the event I download Halo to my hypothetical XBOX, will it work when I don't have internet access? Making plans for the big bad college.

Marketplace comes with Xbox Live. You can play the game without a Live Gold account, just not online (though I'm not sure if you can play Halo 1 online on the Xbox anymore). You can get yearly Gold subscriptions for $40 or less online, but i believe that you can access the marketplace with a (free) Silver subscription as long as you have Internet access.

All is correct, though you can't play Halo 1 multiplayer unless you have a system link or split screen (like the old days).

Right, well. I'm positive I'm ready to buy. Pictures please, from anyone willing to sell.

Update: August 30th.

Parents have officially struck down any chance of an XBOX... later, guys, I'm out.

The parents have spoken! Basically, if I want me an XBOX, I'll have to wait until I can properly hide it from them (i.e. at a college dorm), because they'd probably take it from me if I kept it at/brought it home. Also, I can't officially buy stuff online, so come my next birthday this will be a whole different matter.

Until then, I shall be Halo-less. Think of me in your prayers.
